Toolkit to help food and wine sectors sell SA to the world

3 May, 2016

A new resource has been developed to help South Australian food and wine producers promote our state in international markets and enhance our global premium food and wine credentials.

The new toolkit features images, key messages, videos, and reports that food and wine businesses can use to market their products, region, and state.

The toolkit is easily accessible online, and covers South Australia's major sectors of grains, horticulture, seafood, wine, dairy, and meat and livestock.

Background

The comprehensive toolkit has been developed by Primary Industries and Regions SA in response to feedback from the key food and wine sectors that consistent messages and information are needed to support business in promoting the advantages of buying South Australian.

The toolkit supports the State Government's key economic priority of Premium food and wine produced in our clean environment and exported to the world.

The toolkit can be found at: www.pir.sa.gov.au/industrytoolkit

The food and wine sectors are a vital part of South Australia's economy, generating revenue of $18.2 billion in 2014-15 - representing 46 per cent of the state's merchandise exports - and employing around 144,000 people.

To make sure these industries continue to grow, the toolkit will equip our food and wine businesses with the information they need to promote our state and the benefits of buying premium South Australian products.

We have a lot to offer global food and wine markets. We are the only mainland Australian mainland state that is fruit fly free, and the only mainland state where the growing of GM crops is prohibited.

Our global reputation for premium food and wine is also being strengthened with South Australia's invitation to join the Great Wine Capitals Global Network - joining eight other world-renowned wine regions such as the Napa Valley in the US, Bordeaux in France, and Cape Town in South Africa.

Maintaining a presence in overseas markets is important to getting long-term relationships and improved sales.

Having a good understanding of the seafood sector from a state-wide point of view, as well as knowing South Australia's primary industries' attributes, is hugely helpful in selling ourselves to international buyers.

I'm able to use the toolkit's resources, including photography and video content, when speaking to international buyers, which helps convey the South Australian seafood story - putting me in a better position to find success in those markets.
