Peter Gago recognised in Queen's Birthday honours

Penfolds' chief winemaker and Premium Food and Wine Ambassador Peter Gago has been recognised for his service to the Australian wine industry with his appointment as a Companion of The Order of Australia (AC) in the 2017 Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Mr Gago was given the honour ‘for eminent service to the Australian wine industry as an internationally acclaimed winemaker, to the global promotion of excellence in winemaking, viticulture, marketing and research, as a mentor to young oenologists, and to the community of South Australia'.

Mr Gago has been Chief Winemaker at Penfolds since 2002 and travels the world to interact with trade, media and key opinion-makers.

In 2012, he was awarded the Winemaker's Winemaker Awards – the best winemaker in the world – by the Institute of Masters of Wine.

In March 2017, Peter Gago, Penfolds Chief Winemaker, was named South Australia's Great Wine Capital Global Network Ambassador.

The inaugural ambassadorship will support the advancement of South Australia's wine story and help drive the promotion of the state's premium wine reputation in international markets and amongst key industry stakeholders, worldwide.
